The History Of Packaging Machinery

The origins and ideas behind packaging machinery are complex. After all, go back in history one hundred years and who needed it, I ask. You had the man in the local grocery store in his brown coat who would do all that sort of thing.

He weighed your meat, your rice, your fruit and veg, and your vinegar and then he wrapped them all for you in brown paper. A godsend to Jack and Jill but stories told through the generations will tell you that this man was under immense pressure. He was the 'One Stop' shop for the whole town and supplied all your culinary needs as well as your coal for heating, haberdashery needs and he also acted as a hardware store.

Trying to keep up demand for all this without packaging machinery must have been a veritable nightmare. There was no conveyor belt to speed things along. There was no plastic carrier bags for him to sling at customers to pack themselves. And there was no sullen face that sulked should he have to do something for his customers.

Shopkeepers today just don't know they're born. For the customers of olden days, particularly the elderly, the local grocer was the only person they spoke to in a day and he provided their only source of comfort in what would otherwise be a lonely existence. He would stand and chat while he collected their goods from his shelves. He would then carefully wrap them while diagnosing their ailments or lamenting the behaviour of young people and see his customers off, even opening the door for them.

The old time grocer may have had a long day but he certainly would have felt a sense of pride in the fact that he had made these people happy, supplied all their needs for a day and given that personal touch with the wrapping and chatting.

How did things change so much in the last one hundred years and who, exactly, called for this change? A visit to the shops is not the same anymore. So many shops specialise in only one thing that it can take up to eight different shops to supply a day's needs. Every item you buy will be shrink wrapped by packaging machinery that has been programmed by an origami expert and will require a surgeons degree to get into.

Today's customers have little contact with the shop keeper. If they're lucky they may receive a grunt from them which will just about suffice in the signal that they are still alive. Food wrapped in plastic by food packaging machinery is silently slung at us so we can pack it in more plastic, the type guaranteed to remove digits on the way home.

When we get home we will break out the industrial strength scissors that we bought from the specialist scissor shop that now has to carry a licence to sell such dangerous goods. We can then waste half an hour of our lives trying to get into our food, thus aiding the weight loss diet because we eventually give it up as a bad job.

Still, at least we can sit down and relax with the daily newspaper and read about how plastic women's coats packaging contains carcinogenic agents and that this might just shorten our lives. The answer, apparently, is to use recyclable packaging that is bio-degradable and user friendly. So, that will be brown paper then?

Keeping Your Luggage Locked And Secure

Few of us enjoy waving a cheery goodbye to our luggage at the airport as we see it trundling through the flaps behind the check in desk and disappearing into the strange land beyond. When we reach the other end, the creeping doubt about whether we will ever see it again, or whether it will have been damaged, or broken open, or even stolen, will always be in our minds. The relief of seeing our own case appearing, intact and safe is wonderful.

The truth is that our luggage is never secure once it leaves our own possession. There are a number women's coats of things that can happen to it, including accidental damage, theft, and of course the risk of it being forced open by security if you have locked it, and they need to inspect it for whatever reason.

There are a number of things to bear in mind to help you reduce the risk to your luggage. The first is obvious, but quickly dismissed by most people. Rather than carrying a suitcase with you, why not see if you can reduce your essential possessions to the size of a carryon bag. If you can manage to fit your items into one over the shoulder carryon bag then you will never have to part with your items. It is very surprising to discover just how little you actually need to take with you to be able to enjoy yourself fully on holiday. Taking endless changes of clothes simply takes up room. Do you really need to take clean clothes for every day? Are there no washing facilities where you are going? Professional travellers, such as reporters for example, will often only have one or two bags that they can easily carry with them at all times. There are plenty of sites and articles about how to reduce your luggage quantity.

Locking your case is always a good idea, although in some countries there can be a risk that security will break open the lock or force open the case if they need to inspect it. The tip here is to make sure that you don't carry anything in the case which might cause suspicion - such as liquids, metal items and so on. Also, it might be worthwhile, if you use a padlock to lock your case, to take a spare with you, in case.

The biggest security issue is actually the humble zipper. Most flexible bags have zippers, and very often they come with small padlocks or fittings to allow a padlock to lock the bag. However, if you have ever experienced a zipper breaking open on a cushion cover or coat, you'll already know how easy it is to force a zip open at one end. A ball point pen is all you need to push open one end, after which the zipper will merrily undo along its full length, allowing removal of almost the whole contents. For over the shoulder bags you carry with you, these are fine, but for bags which will to be in your possession the whole time, zips are something to be wary of.

One other point to mention - if you have a bag that looks as though it is easy to carry over your shoulder, you are far less likely to have it weighed than if you are struggling with two or three around you, along with a case. In this respect, you can often get away with a little more than you might otherwise be allowed!

Grooming The Chinese Crested

The Chinese Crested was carried by sailors from Africa to China and nearly every other port of call. Fanciers are found everywhere; however the breed has never reached great popularity. It has been exhibited in circuses and carnivals as a freak. This little dog has many qualities that go unrecognized.

The Chinese Crested is seen in two types. One is the hairless type and the other is called the Powderpuff type with a full coat. The Powderpuff type is nearly identical to the hairless except for the coat. The two are interbred and shown together.

The Powderpuffs coat care is probably less demanding than the skin care of the hairless type. The Powderpuff is covered entirely with long, soft hair (referred to as a veil. You will need only to brush and comb occasionally and bath when dirty to keep the Powderpuff looking spiffy./p>

The hairless type requires moisturizing creams applied daily, sunblock for the light-skinned dogs and a coat is needed in cool weather. The hairless type is prone to blackheads and will need special shampoos to control this problem. The hairless type Chinese Crested has a crest of hair on its head, extending partway down the neck. There are socks covering its toes, as well as a plume on the tail. The rest of the body is hairless.

The Chinese Crested is an active and unique household companion. He will follow his owners around the house, play games with the children and join in family activities. He is a superior family pet. He also can serve as an adequate alarm dog. The Chinese Crested is a good choice for an older childs playmate.

You will need a good-quality bristle brush and a safety razor (to shave the face) for the Hairless variety. For the Powderpuff purchase a good-quality bristle brush, a wide-toothed comb and clippers for the coat.

The skin of the Hairless type requires frequent moisturizing. You can use baby oil or Nivea face cream to massage into the hairless parts to keep the skin smooth and nicely moisturized.

Grooming procedure for the Hairless:

Keep the Hairless type clean with frequent baths, and us a good shampoo followed by a moisturizer (you can also use baby lotion to moisturize the skin of the Hairless Chinese Crested.
The crest, socks and plume should be blow-dried with a good bristle brush.
When hair appears on the body of the Hairless type, you need to remove it.
Remove the facial hair with a safety razor or an Oster No. 40 blade against the grain. You can also be used to remove bo women's coats dy hair. Be careful when using a razor to remove the hair from a Chinese Crested. If you are at all apprehensive about using a razor, consult a professional groomer.
Large patches of hair on the Hairless Chinese Crested are classed as a fault in the show ring.
Towel-dry and finish with a hair dryer on the crest, socks and plume. Brush these areas very carefully with a bristle brush. Avoid brushing on the skin areas.

Grooming procedure for the Powderpuff:

You will need to brush the Powderpuff coat frequently with a bristle or pin brush. Daily brushing may be necessary as the Chinese Crested puppy coat changes to the adult coat.
Mats should be teased out with thumb and forefinger.
When all mats are removed work through the coat with a bristle or pin brush.
Tangles and mats may be found in the area between the front legs and the inside of the elbows. Teach your Chinese Crested to lie on its side while you remove these mats.
To keep the coat of the Powderpuff Chinese Crested looking nice bath regularly with a good-quality dog shampoo. Follow the bath with a blow-drying.
Brush the coat of a Powderpuff Chinese Crested in layers with the lie of the coat. If you use a pin brush be extra careful not to cause the dog discomfort.
After bathing, brushing and blow-drying, the face can be shaved using clippers (10 mm blade). Take a line from the outer corner of the eye to the ear and in a gentle curve from the ear down to the Adams apple. In the U.S., however, the Powderpuff face is not shaved.
Check between the pads of the feet for felting and remove to prevent discomfort to the Powderpuff Chinese Crested when walking.
Finish off with a wide-toothed comb if desired. This will find any remaining tangles in the coat.
Check the Powderpuff Chinese Crested nails, ears and teeth. The nails should be moderately long.
